Careers by Year Group
- Within PSHCE boys use Career Investigator to look at different career ideas.
- Take part in annual Careers Activity Game and meet professionals from different sectors, this involves asking questions and trying to guess an individual’s job.
- Within PSHCE boys use the software programme Fast Tomato which helps pupils to look at careers choices and the skills needed.
- General discussion and individual advice from Form Tutor.
- Individual appointments with Head of Careers.
- Options Evening and talk.
- Within PSHCE boys use the software programme Plotr, an online questionnaire which suggests possible careers to investigate and relevant university courses.
- Invited to attend biannual Higher Education and Careers Fair.
- Take part in an Enterprise and Employability Day focusing on team, leadership, financial and organisational skills. Most recently these have taken place at Jaguar Land Rover.
- Individual advice from Head of Careers when required.
- The major careers programme begins in the Upper Fifth year.
- In September boys take the Cambridge Occupational Analyst aptitude test followed by an individual specialist careers interview. Boys receive a workbook which reveals a picture of their academic and occupational interests and strengths. It includes suggestions for possible careers and A levels. - Upper Fifth are invited to attend weekly “Business Lunches”, which are a great way to find out about different careers and courses.
- Invited to attend biennial Higher Education and Careers Fair.
- Compulsory Work Experience week in the summer term after GCSE examinations. Guidance and support is offered. We have excellent links with many local companies.
- 1:1 interviews with the Head of Careers.
- Talk by leading universities on Higher Education.
- Sessions on Life Skills covering employability skills, CV writing and presentation skills. All boys are now introduced to Unifrog, a platform allowing pupils to explore and record key competencies.
Careers at Warwick offers a vibrant and personalised programme aiming to inspire and engage with all Sixth Formers through diverse and exciting events. The aim of Careers at Warwick is to prepare our pupils for both university and the world of work.
Information is provided to help students choose the right course and university, experience the world of work and set up networks. Whilst this advice is available through one to one private appointments with students, Careers at Warwick also delivers innovative and focused events to prepare and inspire boys for life after Warwick School and help develop the character, skills and confidence needed to build a successful career.
The advice covers many aspects including the following:
- Finding a taster course at university
- Help with personal statements and writing a CV
- Finding an apprenticeship
- Taking a gap year
- Securing work experience
- Providing contacts with Old Warwickians who can provide advice and networking opportunities.
- Developing employability skills
All Lower Sixth pupils now attend sessions on interview skills, and the Upper Sixth students attend a Speed Interviewing Evening, providing both interview experience and networking opportunities. Pupils have the opportunity to attend our popular Business Lunches to understand more about careers and university courses.
We hold two large-scale events, each on a biennial basis, our Careers Fair and Employability Conference, both well promoted and attended by many local and national organisations. We also hold themed Networking Dinners with guest speakers.
There is a growing link with Old Warwickians, our former pupils, many of whom participate in school careers advice and mentoring.
Although the majority of our pupils choose to apply to top universities, they are all encouraged to think about what is really right for them and for some this might be looking at apprenticeships or studying abroad. We speak to every student on an individual basis, and encourage them to explore their career goals and carry out research on what is right for them.
